Profiling

If you're new here, my name is Jim, and I am thrilled to guide you through a way of living that's a bit unconventional but deeply rewarding—life without definitive expectations. In this space, I share insights and stories that push the boundaries of typical life advice, helping you to break free from your cocoon and embrace life in full technicolor through full-impact mindfulness.

The Art of the Job Interview as a Reflection: Just the other day, I was chatting with a good friend about the nerve-wracking experience of job interviews. We've all been there, trying to put our best face forward, hoping to be deemed 'good enough' to get that job offer. It's almost like you're begging, isn't it? You find yourself saying the right things, not necessarily true things, just to fit into the mold they want.

Social Media Profiles as a Mirror to Our Desires: Our conversation then drifted to another common scenario—social media and dating profiles. Here, too, people craft their image meticulously, highlighting qualities they believe are desirable, all in an effort to be accepted. It's a continuous cycle of "Please accept me, please go out with me." This approach often leads to portraying an idealized version of oneself rather than the true self.

Self-Concept and Self-Esteem and the Importance of Understanding the Difference: We often explore the concepts of self-concept and self-esteem. Self-concept is the information you know about yourself—facts, if you will—while self-esteem is how you interpret these facts, often influenced by how others perceive you. This perception can skew the truth, leading individuals to stretch the truth on resumes or profiles to fit into certain societal molds.

A Philosophy of Authenticity: At Fishing Without Bait, our philosophy is simple yet profound: enter every situation without definitive expectations and be truthful about who you are. Instead of listing what you can offer in a relationship or job, why not list what it takes to be with you? What are your requirements for someone else's presence in your life? It's about never settling for less than you deserve.

The Power of Choice: One of the most empowering moments came during a job interview I conducted. After the usual back-and-forth, the candidate flipped the script, asking me, "Why should I work for you?" This question, focusing on what the organization could offer them, signaled a shift from the submissive job-seeker to a confident individual who understands their worth.

Life Is Not a Template: In life we challenge the norm. We encourage you to surf through life's opportunities and challenges without being tethered to a rigid plan. Life isn't about fulfilling a predetermined path but about making choices that reflect your true self. Use your power words—'I am' and 'I choose'—to manifest the life you want, not the life you're expected to lead.

Live Out Loud: As we wrap up today's thoughts, remember that life is about breaking free from the comfort zones and templates that restrict us. It's about stepping into each day with the courage to say 'I choose' and 'I am,' setting your own expectations, and embracing the full spectrum of experiences life has to offer.

Until next time, do a kindness for yourself, do a kindness for another. Namaste.
