Preview of Your Life
Hello, dear reader! You've somehow found your way into my universe—a place where we don't just set expectations but dive headlong into the unexpected, chasing every opportunity with gusto. I'm thrilled you're here to join me on this journey. I’m a behavioral health therapist by trade, and today I want to share a conversation I recently had that might just change the way you look at your own life.
The Power of Choice: During a chat with my good friend and co-host, Mike, we stumbled upon a simple yet profound reminder: our reactions to events are choices. It’s an easy concept to forget, but it’s crucial to remember that we control our responses to the world around us.
Mike and I discussed a recent trip he made to the movies. What struck him wasn't the film itself, but the long wait filled with endless commercials before it started. This mundane experience sparked an interesting analogy about how we often view our lives.
The Preview of Life: Imagine this: you go to the movies, buy your ticket, and then sit through a seemingly endless stream of commercials, waiting for the main event. In life, too, we often find ourselves waiting for the 'real' moments to begin while watching previews—those highlight reels of what could be.
These previews? They’re flashy, full of excitement, and always showing the best bits. It’s tempting to live in a highlight reel in our minds, constantly waiting for something big to happen, living in a cycle of "what ifs" and "someday."
But here’s the kicker: Life is not a series of previews. Waiting for it to start is like waiting for a film after buying your ticket. You’ve made your commitment; now, you must sit through whatever comes before the main feature, be it good, bad, or downright boring.
Buying the Ticket: What does it mean to truly "buy the ticket" in life? It’s about committing to the experiences you choose and embracing them fully. This commitment means stepping out of the waiting room and into the action. It's about making deliberate choices and accepting their outcomes, whether they lead to success or teach us through failure.
Every action we take is a ticket bought to a potential future. Sometimes, it’s a blockbuster hit; other times, it's a flop. But either way, we're learning, growing, and moving forward.
Changing Perspectives: A humorous part of our discussion involved a toy monkey—viewed from the front, it’s all smiles; from the back, well, it's just a monkey’s butt. Life can be similar. Often, we fixate on the negatives or the mundane—the "monkey butts" of life. But by simply changing our viewpoint, we can see the smiles instead. It’s not about manipulating the world to fit our desires but adjusting our perspective to find joy and opportunity in what’s already there.
Your Premiere: So, why not make every day a premiere? Imagine if every morning you woke up was the opening scene of a new chapter in your life. What characters do you want in your story? What adventures await you? And most importantly, what can you do today to make your life not just a series of previews but a thrilling, fulfilling epic where you are the hero?
It’s time to stop waiting for the film of your life to start and realize it’s been playing all along. Buy your ticket, take your seat, and enjoy the show. The premier of your life is now, and you’re the star.
Until next time, embrace your choices, change your views, and live every moment fully. Namaste.
